Days following dozens of GTA VI videos were leaked, the alleged hacker was arrested in the UK and later charged.
The Affair caused a stir. A hacker leaked dozens of videos from the sixth installment of Grand Theft Auto (GTA) on Sunday, September 18. He had also indicated that he was in possession of the source codes of GTA5 and 6, asking in passing for a ransom from RockStar, the publisher of the franchise. Under penalty of selling said source codes.
A malicious act so publicized, that it was quickly qualified as the biggest leak in the history of the video game industry. The case was brought before the FBI and the US Department of Justice.
The imprisoned suspect
It took 5 days for the London police force to get their hands on a suspect. ” City of London Police have arrested a 17-year-old in Oxfordshire on suspicion of hacking in an investigation supported by the National Cyber Crime Unit”tweeted the police.
The alleged hacker, a 17-year-old living in Oxfordshire, was charged with two counts of breaching bail conditions and misusing a computer. According to police sources, he is also suspected of being a member of the Lapsus$ group. The teenager appeared on September 24 in Highbury Corner Juvenile Court. He pleaded guilty to the first charge, and not guilty to the second. He was remanded in custody.
