The new open-world pirate game is a very ambitious project for Ubisoft Singapore. The development of the game therefore seems to take longer than expected, since the studio has just announced a deadline for its release. The new release date is scheduled for March 9, 2023. The game was previously scheduled for the November 8, 2022 on PS5, Xbox Series and PC.

According to the Kotaku site, Skull & Bones would have cost over $120 million at the studio since the beginning of its development. Skull & Bones was announced 5 years ago in 2017 at the E3 event. When the game was announced, the studio was talking regarding a late 2018 release date, but the game has been delayed four times in the four years since. The studio cannot therefore afford to abandon the project, but anyway, it seems to be very well advanced since last summer, we might see an hour of gameplay being revealed in a live video. It only remains to be hoped that all this waiting will have been worth it and that the game will live up to the expectations of fans following five long years.

Although development of the game is complete at this point, the additional time will be used to fine-tune and balance the experience using player feedback from our tech testing and Insider program that has taken place over the past two weeks. It’s the right decision both for our players and for the long-term success of the game.

Translation of the Ubisoft press release.

Description of the game

Skull & Bones will put players in the shoes of a pirate ship captain wishing to make history. They will start the adventure with nothing more than a spear and a small boat, so it will be up to them to make their place in this barbaric world. Players will be able to climb the ranks to eventually be in command of huge boats with a whole crew to manage. They’ll have to manage food, conduct raids, and deal with threats of mutiny like any good pirate captain would. The story is set in the 17th century in the open Indian Sea with a large map covering from the east coast of Africa to Malaysia.
