47 bus companies, which account for 92% of all route buses in Gyeonggi-do, will go on strike starting on the 30th.
The Gyeonggi Bus Labor Union Association (hereinfollowing referred to as the Labor Union Council), a workers’ group, announced that the labor dispute mediation meeting with the Gyeonggi Bus Transportation Business Association, an employers’ organization, had finally broken down at midnight on the same day, following more than nine hours since 3 pm on the 29th.
As a result, the union council plans to start a general strike starting at 4 a.m. that day.
About 15,000 union members from 47 bus companies in Gyeonggi-do belong to the union council.
The number of buses is regarding 10,600 (2,100 public buses, 8,500 private routes), accounting for 92% of all route buses in the province.
Among them, most of the inter-area buses between Seoul and Gyeonggi-do are included, which is expected to increase inconvenience to citizens especially on their way to and from work.
