Israeli company Elbit Systems to supply drones to Thailand

Israeli company Elbit Systems announced on Wednesday that it had won a $120 million contract to equip the Royal Thai Navy with its Hermes 900 maritime patrol unmanned aircraft system (UAS).

The contract, which also includes providing Thailand with training capabilities in the use of the system, is to be performed over a three-year period, according to the defense contractor.

The contract includes maritime radar, electro-optical payloads, satellite communications equipment, deployable life rafts and other capabilities. The announcement did not specify the number of drones purchased.

The Royal Thai Navy plans to use the Hermes 900 system for deep-sea and coastal missions, according to Elbit.

To date, more than 20 customers around the world have purchased Hermes family drones, including Israel, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Canada, the United Nations, the European Union, Brazil, Chile and the Mexico.

“This is another vote of confidence in the Hermes family. We are seeing growing demand around the world for our unmanned solutions that can effectively integrate into operational activities to address a wide range of threats in constantly evolving,” said Yoram Shmuely, Managing Director of Elbit Systems.
