Very soon, an Amazon bedside device might tell whether or not you’re sleeping by measuring sleep patterns.
The e-commerce and technology giant said on Wednesday it will start selling a device later this year that can track sleep patterns without a wristband.
The device, called Halo Rise, will use contactless sensors and artificial intelligence to measure the wearer’s movement and breathing patterns, allowing it to track sleep stages throughout the night.
Amazon said the device “does not include cameras or microphones” and will cost $139.99.

Halo Rise measures sleep patterns and connects with Alexa
The Halo Rise would be the latest device in Amazon’s Halo lineup, which includes a fitness tracker that can track physical activity and sleep patterns.
Amazon noted that the device can connect with its virtual assistant, Alexa, and allow users to wake up with your favorite songs and a light that “simulates the colors and gradual brightness of a sunrise”.
The new device highlights the company’s growing move to integrate its technology into consumers’ lives and expand its reach into wellness.
Its healthcare ambitions have grown over the years, most recently seen in its planned $3.9 billion acquisition of primary care organization One Medical.
The deal is under review by the Federal Trade Commission.

They guarantee confidentiality to the consumer
Amazon has faced scrutiny for its handling of consumer data.
As such, he was quick to offer assurances on Wednesday that information on the Halo Rise device will remain secure, saying “health data is encrypted in transit and at rest in the cloud.”
“Amazon Halo health data is not used for marketing, product recommendations, or , and is never sold,” the company said.
Separately, Amazon said it will launch a new Kindle Scribe, the first Kindle that consumers can write on.
It will also add more features to its Ring doorbell cameras, Astro home robot, and launch new Echo devices.
