American rapper Coolio has died at the age of 59. He was found lifeless in Los Angeles.
The US rapper Coolio († 59) is dead. He died in Los Angeles at the age of 59, as his manager Susan Heber announced on Wednesday. She did not initially provide information on the cause of death.
Coolio, whose real name was Artis Leon Ivey Jr., celebrated his greatest success in 1995 with the hit “Gangsta’s Paradise”. Coolio started his career in Compton, California, a borough of Los Angeles that hosted a number of big West Coast rappers like Dr. Dre or Ice Cube spawned.
Dead on bathroom floor
According to “TMZ”, the rapper is said to have been at a friend’s house on Wednesday. He is said to have wanted to go to the bathroom. When Coolio didn’t leave the bathroom, the friend is said to have found him lifeless on the bathroom floor. The emergency doctors might only determine death.
The rapper’s sudden death sparked consternation in the music community. “Peaceful journey, brother,” wrote drummer and rap musician Questlove (51) on Instagram. This is “sad news”, posted rapper Ice Cube (53) on Twitter. He himself witnessed Coolio’s rise to the top of the industry. (AFP/euc)
