We have often heard Marc Bergevin say that he attaches importance to the QMJHL and that with equal talent, he will always prioritize the little Quebecer.
But if you look at his reign, you can’t say that was really the case.
We wondered if things would change now that Jeff Gorton and Kent Hughes were in office.
If we look at the last draft, where only Miguël Tourigny was drafted by the CH, we cannot really say that this is the case either.
This is why I am absolutely not surprised to see QMJHL commissioner Gilles Courteau come out and say that the CH should no longer say that it attaches importance to the QMJHL.

Because honestly, as Mr. Courteau says, that’s not what’s happening.
And for me, what is most disturbing is not the fact that the Habs do not draft Quebec players. Yes, I would like to see more with the CH, but I also understand that it is more pressure for them, that sometimes it is better to look elsewhere.
The problem is that the CH acts as if nothing had happened. Even worse, he claims that the QMJHL is important and that he wants to draft Quebecers, but it just didn’t work out.
Sorry, but I don’t believe that at all.
If the CH wanted to fish Quebecers, it would fish some. The Ducks have drawn three straight in the QMJHL in the last draft with three of their first picks. They can say that the QMJHL is important.
