It has been confirmed that actor A in his 50s, who has been active at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts for more than 20 years, is being investigated by the prosecution for sexually harassing an employee of a theater company in his 20s.
Mr. A recently appeared in a minor role in the popular Netflix drama ‘Suriname’.
According to the Seoul Jongno Police Station, Mr. A is accused of sexually harassing the victim following a dinner with the staff of his theater company in April.
Immediately following the incident, the victim reported the damage through the grievance counseling room at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts, and submitted a complaint to the police on charges of sexual harassment.
The police called Mr. A for investigation and sent it to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office in June as an opinion of indictment.
The Sejong Center for the Performing Arts held a personnel committee meeting in July following conducting its own investigation and severely sanctioned (dismissed) Mr. A.
Mr. A requested a retrial, saying it was “unpleasant”, but the decision to dismiss him was maintained at the personnel committee for review last month.
The Sejong Center for the Performing Arts said, “The processing has been completed in consideration of the legal process and the victim’s position.”
The city of Seoul also said, “We are aware of the incident, and we are watching the results of the investigation by the investigative agency.”
In a phone call with Channel A, Mr. A explained, “I have held the victim’s hand, but I have never sexually harassed them.”
