Saudi king appoints crown prince head of government

King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia has appointed Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud as head of the kingdom’s cabinet. Prior to that, Mohammed bin Salman served as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense – the heir was actually transferred the powers that he had been performing for so long, as the king is gradually preparing for his departure.

AT decree The king determined the new composition of the government. In particular, another son of the king, Khalid bin Salman, became the new Minister of Defense. Previously, he was Deputy Minister. The ministers of energy and foreign affairs remained in their posts.

In addition, the decree contains a clause that in the presence of the king at government meetings, he still heads it.

Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud is the seventh king of Saudi Arabia. He has ruled the kingdom since 2015. Since the beginning of 2022, he has been hospitalized twice. The monarch is 86 years old.
