A big experiment to save the earth entrusted to a small probe has succeeded.
On the morning of the 27th Japan time, NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) succeeded in the world’s first experiment.
NASA official: ‘History is being made now’
The unmanned spacecraft “DART” played a leading role.
The diameter is regarding 1.9 meters.
Its mission is to ram an asteroid 11 million km away from Earth and shift its course.
Looking at the images actually taken from the spacecraft, the target asteroid looked like a small dot even with regarding one minute remaining until the impact.
After that, the spacecraft moved at a speed of 6.4 km/s, a speed that enabled it to travel between Tokyo and Osaka in regarding a minute.
He made a successful hit.
As part of a project to avoid collisions by ramming a planet that is likely to collide with Earth in the future, the experiment is a major step forward.
In the future, we will continue to clarify whether or not the orbit change was actually possible.
