Avocado crops, new plantations citrus and watermelons are no longer eligible for the localized irrigation subsidy, with regard to Article 1e of the new joint decree of the Minister of Agriculture and the Minister in charge of the Budget, published in September 2022.
This decree stipulates in its second article that this decision is applied to grant applications submitted from July 11, 2022.
This decision draws its essence from the joint decision of the Ministers of Agriculture, Interior and Budget No. 1323.22 of May 18, 2022 which sets the terms for benefiting from State subsidies for hydro-agricultural development in agricultural holdings.
It should be noted that for years, voices in Morocco have denounced these hydrovorous crops among many others. A situation that has worsened with the water emergency that has become acute in Morocco in recent months.
