Los Detroit Pistons they just announced the renewal of four of its contracts rookie. Specifically, those of the fourth year of Saddiq Bey, Isaiah Stewart and Killian Hayes; as well as Cade Cunningham’s third year. All the firms extend the validity of said contracts until the summer of 2024. In the case of the first three, next summer they will be able to sign the extension of their rookie contract with a new salary scale. Bey will collect 4.5 million, Hayes 7.4, Stewart 5.2 and Cunningham 11 during 23-24.
Securing these extensions is a logical step for a team that, although it has taken steps forward to compete, is still in the construction phase. It makes no sense to deprive yourself of youth projects and the projection of these players. This does not imply its continuity in the medium or long term. Of all these, the one that raises the most questions is Killian Hayes, chosen as number 7 in the 2021 draft and still far from being a reality for the Pistons. The point guard still has two years to show that he has a place in Dwayne Casey’s squad, but if he continues to show as little as he has up to now, it is normal to think that he will not sign a new extension next year and that at the end of his contract the Pistons will decide what they do with him.
