important but unknown box which deprives you of an exemption

For 3 years, 8 million tax households have lost money in taxes. Indeed, these households omit to waive taxes on income from savings. So, it is now necessary to know this important box which deprives you of an exemption.

Taxes: the box that deprives of an exemption, the details

From the outset, it is la case 2OP. In 2019, it is reported that a tax household lost an average of 7 euros by forgetting to tick it. However, more than 1.6 million households overpaid income tax by 50 euros or even more. In fact, the 2OP box aims to waive the flat tax. The latter represents the single tax rate on interest and other savings gains. This includes 12.8% income tax plus 17.2% social security contributions. And, you should know that this tax rate has emerged since the first term of the president Macron.

So the 12.8% is equivalent to very advantageous flat-rate taxes, given its low nature. However, this represents a danger for those who do not pay these taxes. And this, even if the flat tax of 12% applies to everyone. In all cases, the financial institutions deduct them at source before the interest is collected. So, to avoid all this, just check the 2OP box on the annual income tax return.

Existing but insufficient improvements

You should know that ticking the 2OP box allows you to waive the flat tax. But once more, this also makes it possible to require the classic scale of 0% for non-taxable persons. Already in 2020, PS MP Valérie Rabault extracted this data from Bercy. And since then, we haven’t heard of the 2OP box. In fact, the General Directorate of Public Finance has applied improvements to this case during the declaration. It can be said that these improvements cannot be ignored. Indeed, for two years we have been receiving an online message at the end of the declarations.

These messages are intended to warn us regarding the 2OP box. Indeed, this process will pre-check the box for the following year if it has been done now. In addition, this system allows those who forgot to check the box in 2019, to get reimbursed. However, this is not enough to solve the whole problem. Indeed, Bercy does not disclose statistics on households that have forgotten the 2OP box. There is only the DGFiP which shows the statistics on the number of boxes checked per year.

Households do not know the 2OP box

The DGFiP said that in 2019 there were 881,000 2OP boxes checked compared to 1.27 million in 2020. And in 2021, there were 1.55 million 2OP boxes checked. The evolution can therefore be seen, even if we are approaching too slowly the 8 million households concerned since 2019. Bercy does not disclose any statistics, we estimate an inaccurate number of non-taxable households having forgotten to tick this box. These households therefore lose euros during the incident.

However, since 2020, automatic reporting has favored checking these boxes. Indeed, the latter involves more than 10 million households each year. And among them, there are 1.8 million who pay the flat tax. And there is a tax exemption requirement for some of those 1.8 million. This implies that they have an interest in checking the 2OP box. However, only 24 out of 1.8 million households did so in 2020. However, things can still be rectified now. Just go to the government tax website and click on “correct my declaration online. » Only, this rectification will have to be done before mid-December so that we can be reimbursed.
