[e대한경제=노태영 기자] The wages of regular workers from January to June of this year increased by 6.1% compared to the same period of the previous year.

On the 25th, the Korea Employers’ Federation announced the report ‘Analysis of wage increases by size and industry in the first half of 2022’.

The average monthly wage for workers in the first half of this year was 3848,000 won, up 6.1% from the first half of last year (3628,000 won). This is 1.9 percentage points (p) higher than the wage increase rate of 4.2% in the first half of last year.

While the rate of increase in flat-rate pay (basic pay and regular allowance) was 4.1%, the rate of increase in special pay (performance pay and bonuses, etc.) was high at 19.1%.

The average monthly wage increase rate for businesses with 300 or more employees rose to 9.8% compared to the first half of last year, but the increase rate for businesses with fewer than 300 employees was only 4.8%.

The industry with the highest rate of increase was the manufacturing sector with an 8.5% increase. It was followed by professional/science/technology (7.2%) and finance/insurance (6.8%).

Ha Sang-woo, head of the Economic Investigation Division of the Korea Federation of Economy and Trade, said, “The gap in special pay, including performance pay, is very large by size and industry. It needs to be coordinated and managed,” he said.
