Al Ain Sports reviews the 2022-2023 UEFA Nations League group standings following the end of the fifth round in the first level.
Competitions are back! European Nations LeagueNext Wednesday, the Scotland and Ukraine match, in the first round of Group A, in the second level competitions.
The tournament actually resumed last Thursday, as the fifth round competitions began at the first level, which lasted for 3 days until it ended on Saturday.
Eight matches were held in the first level of the fifth round of the European Nations League, where France beat Austria 2-0, while the Netherlands beat Poland by the same score.
Croatia beat Denmark 2-1, Belgium beat Wales with the same score, Hungary beat Germany 1-0, Italy beat England with the same score, Portugal beat the Czechs 4-0, and Switzerland beat Spain 2-1.
2022-2023 UEFA Nations League System
The 55 teams belonging to the European Football Association participate in the tournament, as they are divided into 4 levels, namely, the first, second, third and fourth levels.
The first level includes 16 teams, divided into 4 groups, the same for the second and third levels, while the fourth level includes only 7 teams divided into two groups.
The teams of each group in each of the levels face each other, in a home and away system, to determine the leaders, risers and relegators.
After the group stage is over, the 4 teams that top the 4 groups in the first level advance to the semi-finals of the competition.
The semi-finals will be held in one match, without resorting to the home and away system, with the winners of the final match, and the losers in the match for third and fourth places.
As for the four first-placed teams in the four groups in the second and third levels, they advance to the higher level, while the last 4 teams in the 4 groups in the first and second levels will be relegated to the lower levels.
On the other hand, the two teams that are top of the fourth level groups qualify to the third level, while play-off matches are held between the last 4 teams in the third level groups, to determine only two teams to go down to the fourth level.
UEFA Nations League group standings 2022-2023 schedule
After the end of the fifth round, it was confirmed that the England national team had fallen from the first level, following its score stopped at two points, in which it occupies the last place in the second group.
In the same group, Hungary is close to snatching the qualification for the semi-finals, as it occupies first place, two points behind the second-placed Italy.
