China raises its holdings of US Treasuries for the first time in 8 months


US Treasury data revealed on Friday, September 16, that China strengthened its holdings of US Treasury bonds for the first time in 8 months last July.

According to the data, China’s holdings of US Treasuries rose to $970 billion in July, compared to levels of $967.8 billion in the previous June, which was the lowest level since May 2010.

On the other hand, Japan reduced its holdings of US debt to $1.234 trillion in July, compared to $1.236 trillion in the previous month.

In total, foreign holdings of US Treasuries rose to $7.501 trillion in July from $7.430 trillion in the previous month.

US corporate bonds witnessed financial flows of $8.78 billion, compared to $13.99 billion in June.
