Fardi*, an unscrupulous forties, targeted Elisabeth*, an 86-year-old lady, in a shopping center in Epalinges (VD), in June 2022. When the octogenarian introduced his card into the Postomat, the he man behind her was able to memorize the code before approaching the lady to create a diversion. The rest is child’s play: Elisabeth didn’t even notice that the stranger had just stolen her PostCard.
Withdrawals and purchases
The Roma thief was quick to help himself. A first levy of 700 francs took place at “the scene of the crime”, a second of 1300 francs was operated in the Lausanne district of La Sallaz, a few minutes later. The next day and the day following, it was from Geneva that Fardi continued the fraudulent levies, that is to say 2480 francs. He also used Elisabeth’s card to make purchases in stores.
From Aargau to Eastern Vaud
The forces of order managed to get their hands on the thief and found that it was not his first shot. In 2019, Fardi received a suspended sentence for theft in the canton of Aargau and, in 2020, he was sentenced to 3 months in prison for theft and fraudulent use of a computer in eastern Vaud.
“Only a custodial sentence is adequate to guard once morest the inclinations of the defendant, who has not drawn the consequences of his previous convictions”, estimated the Public Ministry. Fardi was sentenced to 90 days in prison by penal order. He must also pay 400 francs in procedural costs.
