They receive 20 million euros by mistake

Some Binance users were surprised to discover that they had received tens of thousands of dollars in their accounts, by mistake.

The Binance cryptocurrency exchange platform mistakenly distributed 4.8 million “HNT” tokens – just over 20 million euros – to some of its customers. An “accounting” error that the platform attributes to the existence of several tokens linked to the Helium project – the HNT and the MOBILE.

Platform users who sent MOBILE tokens to their Binance wallet might thus have taken advantage of a bug. In this case, their MOBILE tokens were transformed into HNT tokens, valued at $4.5. The MOBILE tokens currently not yet having a quotation, they made a pretty good deal. The platform would have donated – by mistake, more than 20 million euros to some of its users.

The Helium Foundation responded by saying in a statement that it had “was notified by Binance late in the evening of September 15 that an accounting error involving HNT had occurred.”

“We can confirm that this is not a blockchain issue, and that this issue is unique to Binance. To our knowledge, no other exchanges or third parties have been affected” explains the company.

Binance did not specify how many users may have taken advantage of this accounting error.
