She was denied a cesarean section and ended up losing her baby

A 23-year-old woman lost her baby following doctors refused to perform a caesarean section in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

It all started on September 14 when Micaela Vilchez had to be hospitalized because she was regarding to give birth.

On Friday the 16th, Micaela entered the delivery room. However, following an hour they realized that the baby was too big for her. The woman measures 1.49. At that time they recommended a cesarean section. However, when calling another doctor, he said no, that a natural birth was better.

They continued in labor, but since they did not have positive results, the doctors suggested a cesarean section once more, to which the doctor once more refused. Micaela herself requested the procedure due to the intense pain, but she was not listened to.

“Two doctors climbed on top of her belly,” Micaela’s father, Guillermo, told TN.

After five hours, baby Joaquín was born, measuring 50 centimeters. Micaela realized when holding him in her arms that she wasn’t crying normally, but slowly.

“They told her to stay calm, that everything would be fine,” Guillermo said.

By Saturday they told Micaela that the baby was unstable, that oxygen was not getting to his brain well and that the lungs were not working properly.

One of the doctors who was treating Joaquín suggested that the complications in labor might harm the health of the newborn. After an hour, they gave Micaela the news that her son had died of cardiorespiratory arrest.

“What they did has no name,” said Joaquín’s grandfather.

Given what happened, the family made a complaint to the Argentine authorities and it is expected that an autopsy will be performed on the baby to determine the exact causes of death.
