A Venezuelan living in Georgia, in the south of the United States, requested help from the authorities and from anyone who “humanely” can offer her information in the face of the disappearance of her daughter, son-in-law and two granddaughters.
Arelys Verde spoke with the Efe news agency and said that for a week she has not known the whereregardings of her relatives, who were “kidnapped” on the Mexican side when they were regarding to cross into the United States.
In a telephone conversation, Verde declared herself “desperate” because she had paid a ransom, but none of her relatives was released.
“My daughter, Claudia Rivero, my son-in-law Carlos Ospina and my two minor granddaughters, 12 and 10 years old (Victoria Alejandra and Carla Valentina), were kidnapped on Friday, September 16, in Ciudad Juárez (Mexico),” said Verde.
According to the Venezuelan, the family had arrived in Mexico from Bogotá (Colombia) by air and was staying in a hotel in Ciudad Juárez when they disappeared.
Later she received a call from people who said they had them in their possession and demanded a ransom.
“They told me that they were going to kill them, I had to pay what they asked for and even so they were not released,” said Verde, who received another call from the kidnappers on Tuesday, September 21.
“They asked us for more money and it was given to them. They said they would release the family in a few hours, but that was not the case. They turned off her phone and we no longer heard from them, ”she warned.
The family paid regarding $16,000 in two installments to the alleged kidnappers and is now “adrift,” according to Verde.
The lack of Venezuelan consulates in the US complicates his situation, since he has no one to ask for help, he added.
