Mohali – A soldier has been arrested in a case related to recording the footage of the women’s hostel of Chandigarh University and spreading it on social media. A soldier named Sanjeev Singh, a native of Arunachal Pradesh, has been arrested by the Punjab Police for threatening a girl for filming the bathroom footage. The girl, her boyfriend and accomplice were earlier arrested in connection with the incident. With this, the number of people arrested in the incident has increased to four.
Punjab Police Chief Gaurav Yadav said that Sanjeev Singh was arrested on the basis of digital and forensic evidence collected including the phones of those arrested earlier. The DGP informed that he was nabbed from Sela Pass with the help of Arunachal Pradesh military authorities, police and policemen from Assam. Police informed that the soldier constantly threatened the girl, demanding more footage and videos. His phone was also sent for expert examination.
In the past week, huge protests have been staged in and around the university, alleging that the videos of girls’ toilets in the women’s hostel were circulated on social media. But the police informed that the arrested student sent only her own videos to her boyfriend. It is also reported that the girl, who was arrested, was threatened by her boyfriend and accomplice to film the scenes of the girls’ bathroom in the hostel.
