Oppo has earned a solid reputation for value-for-money smartphones with great cameras and the company’s latest releases should bolster that reputation.
West Travel was among the first to test the new Reno8 Pro 5G and Reno8 5G phones and we think they’re pretty impressive.
So how are they?
Oppo has shipped over 80 million Reno devices worldwide since the series launched in 2019, so it’s a well-established product.
– archyde news –
Both models look and feel premium with thin bezels and a sleek design that smoothly integrates the camera modules into the back cover and gives the handsets a nice feel.
The Reno8 Pro has a 6.7-inch screen and the Reno8 has a slightly smaller 6.4-inch screen. Both are high resolution displays, but the Pro model is noticeably brighter when comparing the phones side by side. It also shades the Reno8 with a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz versus 90Hz.
Both models have improved camera capabilities and are equipped with Dual Sony sensors. The front selfie camera has a 32MP sensor and the rear cameras have a 50MP sensor. Both can record 4K video at 30fps, but the Pro model includes additional features like video zoom, dual view video, and video stabilization.
The 4,500mAh battery can be charged to 50% in around 10 minutes and 100% in around 30 minutes and Oppo claims the Reno8 series devices retain up to 80% of their original capacity following 1600 charge cycles which is twice the industry standard and makes it the longest smartphone battery life on the market.
The verdict
I think both phones will satisfy most users. They look good, feel durable, and have great cameras. Low-light performance is really good, and macro lets you focus as close as 4cm, which is perfect for wildflower photography. I like how in Pro mode you can actually adjust the shutter speed. (A feature that is not always included in Pro modes on various other phones).
I would spend the extra $200 for the Pro model. The bigger, brighter screen and extra features are well worth the extra money. I particularly like the dual view video feature. . . it can add a fun and different element to your travel videos where you can be seen through the selfie camera while the front camera captures the views.
