After the chaotic release of Cyberpunk 2077 in 2020, due to numerous technical issues on PC and consoles. CD Projekt RED’s RPG has risen and come back stronger, notably by offering an animated series, Cyberpunk Edgerunners, which has propelled the famous forgotten game to the fore.

According to Steamdb, the game peaked the weekend of September 17 and 18 with over 80,000 concurrent players. Which allowed Cyberpunk 2077 to beat Elden Ring, Grand Theft Auto V and Destiny 2 on Steam. The audience was four times larger than before the broadcast of the series, which allows us to say that this sudden popularity is not a sign of chance, but indeed of the broadcast. from the famous animated Cyberpunk Edgerunners released on September 13th. Some comments even stating that it is the best ad the game has ever seen.

A craze predicted in advance?

The series has been highly praised by audiences and even the creator himself, Mike Pondsmith, who said:

It’s like looking at my own brain. I’ve been waiting for this for years

It would seem that CD Projekt RED felt the right vein by proposing a few days before the release of the series, a patch adding quests, items related to the series, but also to fix some bugs. The developer also announced the first Cyberpunk 2077’s major expansion, Phantom Liberty, in 2023.

Next to that, the communication was strongly deployed by Netflix putting a huge poster on Times Square in New York.
