Coronavirus: how are hospital admissions in Belgium?

The number of people admitted to hospital with Covid-19 increased slightly between September 16 and 22, to almost 58 daily hospitalizations on average (+4% compared to the previous seven days), according to figures from the Sciensano Public Health Institute updated Friday morning. A total of 731 coronavirus-positive people are currently hospitalized (+3%), including 51 patients treated in intensive care (-9%).

On the other hand, between September 13 and 19, 3.7 people died per day on average while they were carriers of the virus, a number in sharp decrease (-42%) over one week. Since the start of the covid epidemic in Belgium at the start of 2020, 32,647 people have died.

Also between September 13 and 19, 1,947 new Sars-CoV-2 contaminations were detected on average per day, up 17% compared to the previous week.

The overwhelming majority of cases (91.5%) of Covid-19 in our country remain due to the Omicron BA.5 subvariant but the proportion of cases due to it is decreasing slightly (-2%).

The reproduction rate of the virus has meanwhile risen above 1.05. When it is greater than 1, this indicator means that the epidemic tends to accelerate. The incidence, which provides the number of new cases per 100,000 inhabitants, reaches 218 over 14 days
