Swiss star Roger Federer will play his last official match of his career on Friday alongside eternal rival Rafael Nadal in the doubles category of the European Laver Cup tennis team.
Federer and Nadal will face the Americans Jack Sock and Francis Tiafoe on Friday evening, before the Swiss bring the curtain down on a triumphant career at the age of forty-one.
The European team, led by Swede Bjorn, consists of the quartet Nadal, Federer, Novak Djokovic, Britain’s Andy Murray, Greece’s Stefanos Testipas, Norway’s Casper Rudd, Italy’s Matteo Berrettini and Britain’s Cameron Nouri. Diego Schwartzman, Americans Taylor Fritz, Tommy Paul, Jack Sock and Australia’s Alex de Minaur.
Federer had expressed his hope to play his last match with Nadal, and said in a press conference on Tuesday, “Of course, it would be a unique occasion if it happened,” adding, “We have faced each other several times, but the respect is mutual between us.”
