After a summer plagued by drought, fruit and vegetable producers are worried regarding the explosion of their costs, starting with that of energy. On the front line, endive producers and greenhouse growers (tomatoes, cucumbers, strawberries or peppers), two energy-intensive productions, whose energy cost might go from a few tens of thousands of euros to more than a million euros. , without government intervention. The whole sector is concerned, given the need to preserve products.
In these circumstances, Laurent Grandin, the president of Interfel, the fruit and vegetable interprofession, launched an appeal to the government on Thursday, fearing the impossibility of restarting in the event of a production stoppage.
Interfel asks that the sector be excluded from energy rationing, a lowering of the threshold for the payment of aid or even to support companies in the development of alternative energies.
