Young girls are more prone to ischemic strokes when there is a failure in the circulatory system due to thromboembolism than men. Women from the age of 15 have a higher risk of vascular accidents within the brain, noted neurologist of the NAKFF medical clinic Ivan Emelyanov in a conversation with URA.RU.
– Indeed, there is a difference in the predisposition to strokes among men and women at a young age. The main reasons for this feature are hormonal disruptions, the consequences of menstrual irregularities, taking oral contraceptives, gestational diabetes (increased blood glucose levels), preeclampsia and arterial hypertension during pregnancy or following childbirth, explained Yemelyanov.
At the same time, doctors are increasingly seeing strokes among young people. The average age of this disease is gradually decreasing, often cerebrovascular accidents can be found among the able-bodied part of the population.
So why is there a trend towards more strokes among young people? This can mainly be attributed to the fact that risk factors such as physical inactivity, eating disorders, and stress disorders began to acquire pronounced significance at a younger age. A significant role is also played by hereditary predisposition, anomalies in the development of blood vessels that feed the brain. In the near future, it is worth observing how the statistics will change taking into account the transferred coronavirus infection,” the neurologist explained.
