The Egyptian artist, Hisham Selim, died at the age of 64, following suffering from cancer, according to what the head of the Artists Syndicate Ashraf Zaki announced on his Instagram page.
Selim began his artistic career at an early age, through the movie “Empire of M”, in which he appeared with the artist Faten Hamama, and it was shown in 1972, and following that he played prominent roles in a number of films and series that were widely accepted, such as the films “Forgery in Official Papers”, and “” The Return of the Prodigal Son, and the series “The White Flag”, “Layali Al-Helmeya” and “Arabesque”.
Last year, he participated in the movie “Musa” and the series “Counter Attack”, before his health deteriorated.
Selim was known for his positions in support of the January 25 revolution in 2011, which overthrew former President Mohamed Hosni Mubarak, and for his interest in political and public affairs. He presented a talk show on one of the Arab satellite channels in 2013 and 2014.
Transsexual Support
In May 2020, Hisham Selim spoke, during a television program, regarding the sexual crossing of his daughter “Noura” to a male named “Noor” following suffering with a gender identity disorder in a society that “rejects that”.
Selim said in the television interview that he was not surprised by his son’s desire to cross, because he was always suspicious of it. Selim described his son’s decision as “brave and bold.”
Selim also spoke regarding the moment his son (formerly his daughter) recognized the gender disorders he was going through when he was 18 years old, and that he was “living in a body other than his own”, and stressed his support and his family’s support for him to continue his life as a young man.
Hisham Selim’s position was met with great interaction on social media, and tweets considered Selim’s talk regarding his son’s journey with sexual transit “rare courage” and “unfamiliar” in Egyptian society, as many still view gender identity disorder as a moral issue.
Alahli football club
Hisham Selim is the son of Saleh Selim, who is one of the most famous people who took over the presidency of Al-Ahly Club, as he led the club in two periods, the first from 1980 until 1988 and the second from 1992 until 2002.
Prior to the club’s presidency elections in December 2017, Hisham Selim refused to join Mahmoud Taher’s list competing with Mahmoud al-Khatib, who won the elections for the first time and decided it for a second term.
Hisham Selim was one of the opponents of Mahmoud Al-Khatib, despite his recognition that he is one of the best football players, and criticized Al-Khatib for his lack of previous administrative experience, as well as Al-Khatib’s standing with his father’s opponents in the club’s presidency elections earlier.
