The Montreal Canadiens announced on Wednesday the complete list of players invited to their training camp. Among the 74 guests, there are 23 Quebecers, which is equivalent to nearly a third of the players who will be present.

In recent years, the lack of Quebecers has been felt at the Canadian. Some fans are clamoring to see more players from here in the lineup. We can understand them. A good Quebec player can more easily get involved in his community, thanks to the language, and can allow young players to identify with him. Unfortunately, it’s much harder to get your hands on whoever you want these days.
Last August, the host Tony Marinaro explained on his podcast, The Sick Podcast, that, according to him, it was more difficult than ever to have Quebecers in the NHL because of the poor work of Hockey Quebec.
This time, even if it is difficult to get your hands on talented Quebecers, Kent Hughes has put the odds in his favor by inviting 23 Quebecers to training camp. Out of 23, none may break through the Canadiens’ regular roster (with the exception of the regulars: David Savard, Jonathan Drouin, Samuel Montembeault and Michael Matheson), but there’s certainly a better chance than if he there were only 10. Without breaking through the alignment, Quebecers are mainly there to leave business cards.
The place of Québécois in Montreal has lost momentum in recent years, but there is always one that ends up taking hold and getting the crowds going. Last year, Samuel Montembeault became a darling of the Quebec public, even if he did not have unforgettable performances.
In the near future, we can expect to see Rafaël Harvey-Pinard or Joshua Roy (guests at the camp) break through the CH alignment. They always say that Montreal pressure hurts Quebec players, but these two guys have the potential to become favorites in no time to fight that pressure.
