Double murder and suicide: a separation difficult to accept at the origin of the drama affecting the Sacred Heart of Charleroi

It is a new feminicide, one more unfortunately, which has been in the news in recent hours in the Charleroi region. Delphine, a teacher in the secondary section of the Collège Sacré-Coeur in Charleroi, was killed last night at her home in Mont-sur-Marchienne. Jean-Pierre, his new companion, was also fatally shot. The perpetrator, Carl, Delphine’s ex-companion and also a member of the school’s teaching staff, subsequently committed suicide… The Charleroi public prosecutor’s office, which confirms the information from La Nouvelle Gazette, returned to the circumstances of this double murder followed by suicide.

A difficult separation

This Monday evening, Carl made the terrible decision to take the firearm he owned and go to the home of his ex-girlfriend. The couple had just separated, during the month of August, at the request of Delphine. A decision which, according to the judicial authorities, would have been difficult for Carl to accept. Once there, the latter fired at Delphine and her new companion. The two people, who had children from previous unions, died on the spot.

On the way back to his home where his mother also lives, Carl contacted his sister. “He warned him of what he had just done and that he intended to end his life to avoid legal proceedings”, details the Charleroi public prosecutor’s office. Once home, Carl turns the gun on himself and commits suicide. The detonation of the shot was heard by the mother, who alerted the emergency services and the police.

Unknown to justice

Subsequently, Carl’s sister contacted the competent authorities to report the double murder committed by her brother a few moments before at the home of the ex-companion. The prosecution was obviously notified of the facts, an investigation was opened to determine the precise circumstances of the facts. A medical examiner and a ballistics expert have been appointed.

Within the Sacred Heart College of Charleroi, the shock is immense. Classes have been suspended for the day, as well as for this Wednesday, September 21. Contacted, the management of the school did not respond to our request. Some of Delphine’s and Jean-Pierre’s children, hit hard by the drama, go to school. On Facebook, tributes are pouring in. Some former students salute the memory of Delphine.

The investigation will focus on the context at the origin of the facts. Given the death of the alleged perpetrator, “the public action is extinguished”. Carl was not known to justice. “Nothing might have predicted such a scene of violence”confirms the prosecution.
