President Gabriel Boric will speak today before the UN plenary, thus making his debut at the United Nations General Assembly taking place in New York. In his speech -and among several things- the head of state will emphasize the current political moment that our country is going through and what the constituent process was like, following the results of the September 4 plebiscite.
The President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric, traveled yesterday and arrived in the United States overnight (early morning from Chile). The President plans to speak before the UN plenary in the first block, at 11:00 in the morning of our country.
His speech – which would come shortly following the inauguration by the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres – will be focused on several points.
Among them, the unrestricted respect for human rights in all parts of the world, respect for multilateral bodies, some emphasis on foreign policy that has to do with the climate crisis, among other points.
But without a doubt, the one that will attract attention will be the political edge: “In the United Nations I intend to account for the moment in which we are,” said the president this weekend at the La Moneda palace.
The president did not travel alone. Among the delegation that accompanies him is the head of the Treasury Mario Marcel, who will hold an intense agenda of meetings with institutional investors, businessmen and authorities of multilateral organizations.
Between Tuesday, September 20 and Thursday, September 22, the authority will be in the Big Apple in a series of meetings where it will focus on explaining the performance of the Chilean economy in the post-plebiscite scenario and answering the doubts of investors interested in the country.
Among the topics that the minister will comment on to his audience is the recent announcement of the Invertamos en Chile Plan, the tax and pension reform, and the projects regarding the capital market.
In addition, the guidelines regarding the fiscal situation will be present ad portas the presentation of the Budget project for next year and the debt statistics, the next Productivity agenda, the announcements on foreign investment of Invest and the status of trade negotiations, among others.
Meanwhile, Environment Minister Maisa Rojas also traveled and will hold bilateral meetings. This, also in view of the COP to be held in Egypt, in November of this year.
Among President Boric’s activities is a joint event with the President of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, with whom he will commemorate the 50th anniversary of former Chilean President Salvador Allende’s speech at the United Nations General Assembly.
The general debate of the seventy-seventh session will be held from this Tuesday in New York and will end on Monday the 26th of this month.
