Connect 4 is a deceptively strategic tic-tac-toe game with one simple objective: create a line of four using your color chips before your opponent does. The line can be horizontal, vertical or diagonal.
However, what makes Connect 4 so difficult is the possibility for players to ruin their own chances of winning. Your opponent can use your chips to stack their own lines, break your lines, and even set up a winning strategy whose effects you will see ten turns from now.
If you want to become a master at Connect 4, here are some strategies and tips you should keep in mind.

Deposit your first tokens in the middle column
The middle column is the most strategic position on a Connect 4 map. You can complete your rows on either side at any point in the game. In fact, if you get the premier tourdepositing your chip in the middle column will automatically prevent your opponent from drawing horizontal lines.
Look for a mid-game winning line
The best way to win Connect 4 is to make sure you have a winning strategy from the start. If the board starts to fill up, it’s time for you to plan the squares that will form your winning line. Then start blocking the spaces that will eventually allow you to connect your winning line. If your winning line is blocked, look for another one.

By the way, it’s good practice never to play below your payline (too much). You don’t want to sabotage your chances of success by allowing your opponent to possibly pile chips on you and block your solution.
Play aggressively
However, to successfully build your winning line, you need to trick your opponent into believing that you are looking to connect another line instead. So, in addition to your winning line, you also need to look for other potential four-in-a-row setups that you’re not going to pursue and set serious traps. Confuse your opponents by making it look like you’re looking to connect those lines instead of the winning solution you’ve had in mind all along.
As long as you play the long game while being aware of your opponents’ moves, you will win most Connect 4 games you play.
