Legault’s “pragmatism” serves to “justify his resignation”, according to Nadeau-Dubois | Elections Quebec 2022

Mr. Nadeau-Dubois described his approach as he unveiled his plan to halve food waste by 2030, Monday morning, at a press conference in Quebec.

CAQ leader François Legault has been saying for years that his political training is pragmatic and not dogmatic, ideological or extremist.

No one owns pragmatism. It’s just that we have different definitions sometimeslaunched the co-spokesperson of Québec solidaire.

What is your definition of pragmatism?, Mr. Nadeau-Dubois was asked. This means making sure to take the means to achieve our objectives. We think it is possible in Quebec to reduce mass food waste by concentrating our efforts where necessary. […] This is where we work. This is where our law will applyhe replied.

He compared his approach with that of his opponent.: “we already do enough””,”text”:”François Legault often uses the word pragmatic to justify his resignation. For him, being pragmatic often means: “we already do enough”he pointed out.

« Pragmatism is ensuring that we take the right means to achieve our objectives. Building the third link by pretending to fight once morest climate change is the opposite of pragmatism. It’s making decisions that will make the problem worse. »

The youth vote

The CAQ and QS have been engaged in a war of words and leaflets for a few dayswhether regarding the orange tax decried by Mr. Legault or even by repeated calls from those in solidarity with young people to change their place of residence with the DGEQ to vote strategically in another constituency.

On this last aspect, Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois defended himself from taking advantage of loopholes in the law and said he respected the rules in force.

The law is clear. People, young or not young, have the right to change their address to ensure that on the electoral list, they are registered in the place where they have their domicile. […] That is to say in the constituency where they have their domicilehe said.

« We, what we remind people, is that they have this possibility. It is legal. The Chief Electoral Officer of Quebec has never put us in violation of the law. »

A quote from Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois, co-spokesperson for Québec solidaire

On the other hand, he accused the CAQ of deploying a lot of energy to curb the youth vote. What I see is the staff of the CAQ who are working very hard to put a spoke in the wheels of Québec solidaire to ensure that young people do not vote where they live.he denounced.

The solidarity leader did not seem unduly worried regarding the CAQ offensive concerning the distribution of leaflets on the orange tax. He derided this strategy.

The CAQ activists who walk around the neighborhoods at night to put leaflets on people’s windshields, I find that, honestly, rather funny. I don’t think this is the kind of politics that will appeal to Quebecershe opined.

Caquist candidates flee the debates

The solidarity leader was asked regarding the thirty invitations to take part in local debates which were declined by CAQ candidates since the start of the campaign.

« I do not know why François Legault prevents or asks his candidates not to go and debate. »

A quote from Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois, solidarity leader

He finds it unfortunate that voters cannot hear aspiring MPs debate issues that concern them.

Is he afraid of what they will say? Is he embarrassed of his candidates? How is it that we cannot hear the deputies and the CAQ candidates in the debates? I think it’s important in a democracyhe said.

Are you worried that he controls the message to this extent? The question should be put to him. Me, I find it a shame, I find it flat. We are in an election campaign. That’s what a campaign is forhe replied.

In the followingnoon, François Legault was asked why his candidates were shunning the debates, whether it be health, employment, seniors, social justice or the environment.

Are you afraid of putting yourself at risk? Since the start of the campaign, we have participated in 115 debates. The CAQ participated in 115 debates. I think we also have a duty to be on the ground to discuss with the populationhe replied.

The plan aims to reduce food waste by 50% by 2030. In November 2020, the outgoing MP for Rouyn-Noranda–Témiscamingue, Émilise Lessard-Therrien, tabled a bill that aimed to achieve the same objective of here 2025.
