single reviewReal Madrid is still on course in LaLiga: On matchday 6, the Blancos won 2-1 (2-0) in the Madrid city duel. While Thibaut Courtois, who has been outstanding in the past two years, wobbled slightly in some phases of the game, Federico Valverde convinced with a big heart and extraordinary dynamism. But Militão, Tchouaméni and Rodrygo also scored plus points.
starting eleven
Thibaut Courtois
In the 13th minute following a corner kick by the hosts, the Belgians saved their colors from falling behind several times. Whether once morest Griezmann (25th) or once morest Carrasco (40th) – the world-class keeper always had the upper hand. In the second round, the 1.99 meter giant surprisingly wobbled a few more times. First he played an unclean pass in the build-up (78th). Then the goalkeeper missed the ball when Hermoso scored the goal (83′). In the closing minutes, the 30-year-old had his nerves under control and didn’t allow another goal. REAL TOTAL-Note: 3,5.
Daniel Carvajal
Difficult game for the full-back! Apart from a suboptimal positioning in space and a lost one-on-one with Carrasco (40th), the veteran delivered a good performance. Three ball wins, a clarification and 70 ball actions are also statistically good values. Almost more important: In the final phase, Carvajal showed leadership qualities and represented the values of madridismo like a lion. REAL TOTAL-Note: 2,5.
Eder Militão
Was not completely uninvolved in the late goal by deflecting the leather slightly. Apart from that, the Brazilian convinced both in terms of tackling and in terms of positional play. The central defender made sure that Atlético hardly developed a goal threat except for the beginning and end of the game. In terms of form, the starting XI would be unthinkable without it. REAL TOTAL-Note: 2.
David Alaba
Defended well once morest Cunha (63′) and saved from a Llorente cross with the last effort (78′). Otherwise a rather inconspicuous, albeit solid performance by the Austrian. With his temperament and his passion, the ex-Bayerman is already a pillar that can hardly be replaced in big games. REAL TOTAL-Note: 3.
Ferland Mendy (up to 74 minutes)
(Felt) a little less in focus than his counterpart Carvajal, the Frenchman fitted into a four-man chain that harmonized well for long stretches. And even if Mendy once more didn’t bring any fireworks of offensive action onto the pitch, he was almost always playable and relatively safe with the ball. Had to make way for Rüdiger in the final phase, probably also because of his yellow card. REAL TOTAL-Note: 3.
Luka Modrić (up to the 81st minute)
Like his teammates, he didn’t get off to a good start in the game. After regarding 15 minutes, the Croatian had a pass rate of around 60 percent, but he improved significantly as the game progressed. The creative head’s best action came before Valverde’s goal to make it 2-0, when he broke a two-on-four situation with a wonderful one-two with Vinícius. 64 ball actions, a pass rate of almost 90 percent and two key passes are also statistically good values. REAL TOTAL-Note: 2,5.
Aurelien Tchouameni
Took regarding fifteen minutes to arrive in his first Derbi Madrileño. After Kondogbia’s distance attempt (18th), the French gradually managed to control the six-man space and take the momentum out of Atlético’s attacks. Before Rodrygo’s opening goal, the newcomer also shone with a wonderful lob behind the home side’s defence. Two ball wins, six clearances, two aerial duels won and a key pass underline the importance of the powerful clearer. REAL TOTAL-Note: 2.
Toni Kroos (up to the 85th minute)
Actually known as a fine spirit, the German convinced that evening with a poisonous game once morest the ball. Again and once more the 32-year-old ran into spaces, put his opponents under pressure and thus ensured ball wins. Also convincing as a pass player (92 percent pass rate), Kroos was replaced in the final phase by the no less poisonous Ceballos. REAL TOTAL-Note: 2,5.
Federico Valverde
Is this the best Valverde ever? Quite possible! Against the “Rojiblancos” the Uruguayan once more reeled off several kilometers and had many important actions – both defensively and offensively. By leaving two opponents standing, the 24-year-old inimitably initiated the opening goal. When Blancos scored the second, the fan favorite was there himself and gave Oblak no chance to defend himself from close range and from an acute angle. Impressive performance, Faith! REAL TOTAL-Note: 1,5.
Rodrygo Goes (up to 85 minutes)
After his rather unfortunate performance once morest RB Leipzig, Rodrygo filled the nine position in the derby much better. Whether as an ice-cold executor (18th) or with targeted deep runs – the Brazilian always presented Atlético’s defense with challenges. The youngster didn’t really generate many final actions, but his goal to make it 1-0 paved the way for the Merengues to their sixth win of the season in LaLiga. REAL TOTAL-Note: 1,5.
Vinicius Júnior
It was (understandably) obvious to the Brazilian from the start that the scandal of racism among Atlético fans didn’t leave him cold. His best action on the pitch came before Valverde’s goal, when he and Modrić duped four opponents before hitting the post. Otherwise a sporty rather average evening also thanks to some unsuccessful tricks. Morally, his teammates sent him a lot of encouragement and solidarity. Don’t stop dancing Viní! REAL TOTAL-Note: 3.

substitute
Antonio Rüdiger (from the 74th minute)
The German came on in the closing stages to stabilize the defence, played solidly but didn’t have much of an action apart from one solo. Without rating.
Eduardo Camavinga (from the 81st minute of the game)
Certainly not the easiest phase of his young Real career. Arrived late as a Modrić substitute but didn’t really impact Los Blancos’ game anymore. Without rating.
Daniel Ceballos (from the 85th minute)
Fitted into the Real game no less well than the Kroos substitute, which he replaced in the closing stages. Twelve ball actions and a direct ball win underline that Ceballos was fully in the game without a lead. Without rating.
Marco Asensio (from the 85th minute)
Despite his dream goal once morest Leipzig, the Spaniard once once more had to make do with a bench seat. Only had four ball actions in nine minutes. Without rating.
Trainer
Carlo Ancelotti
Sixth win in sixth league game! With the success in the city derby, the Italian has rounded off the fantastic strong season of the Blancos. The three-man offensive series Valverde, Rodrygo and Vinícius turned out to be a real stroke of luck. The (obvious) match plan of the “Mister”, to undermine Atlético with well-aimed balls behind the chain and to take their rhythm with a few phases of ball possession, also worked in every respect. It’s just a shame that Ancelotti was so cautious in the second round and let the opponent get close once more. REAL TOTAL-Note: 2.
