TOKYO, Sept 19 (WAM) — Typhoon Nanmadol swept through western Japan, bringing torrential rain and strong winds today, forcing airlines to cancel flights, disrupting trains and cutting power to more than 300,000 homes.
Authorities warned of floods and landslides as the season’s 14th typhoon moved toward eastern Japan.
The Japan Meteorological Agency said that up to 400 millimeters of rain is expected in the Tokai region, central Japan, over the next 24 hours.
The Kyushu Railway Corporation, which operates trains serving the western Japanese island of Kyushu, was quoted by NHK as saying it had suspended operations for the whole day Monday, while Japan Airlines canceled regarding 800 flights today.
