Algerian artist Farida Sabounji, one of the prominent faces in theater and television since the fifties of the last century, died Saturday at the age of 92, according to the Ministry of Culture and Arts.

The Minister of Culture and Arts, Sourieh Mologi, wrote that “the able actress, Farida Sabounji, died following suffering from a severe health crisis, thus losing Algeria to a pillar of beautiful Algerian art,” as stated on the ministry’s page on Facebook.

Born in 1930, Sabounji began her acting career on the stage at the age of thirteen, and then continued to act in plays broadcast by Algerian radio in the seventies of the last century, and moved from her to television, where the audience loved her through her distinctive metropolitan dialect (residents of the capital Algiers), especially through The series “Destiny” in 1989.

Since the fifties, the late actress has acted in theatrical works alongside great actors such as Mostafa Kateb and Mohamed El-Toury.

Her last appearance on television was in the series “Dar Al Bahja” in 2013.

Actress Farida Sabounji is one of the most prominent film and television faces in Algeria, according to Archyde.com.

Sabunji, who was born in the Douirat neighborhood in Blida, had a stroke in 2018, following which she kept her public appearance.

Sabounji presented distinguished works on the stage in the 1950s, where the great stars of Algeria participated in their works, such as Mohieddine Bachtarzi, Rowaished, and others.

She joined the radio in 1947, where she presented radio dramas, and was also known on screen for the roles of wealthy, arrogant and sometimes hard-hearted women.

Among her most prominent TV series are (Al-Masir), (Al-Makotoob), (The Will), (Kid of Time), (The Difficult Exam) and (Dar Umm Hani), and she also presented the films (Hassan Medal), (Helmets What God Gives You) and (Hoyaf Bila). susceptible).

Over the course of her artistic career, she received many awards, as well as the National Order of Merit “Worthy”.

The Algerian Center for the Development of Cinema, the Algiers Opera and a number of artistic institutions, theater groups, media professionals and public figures mourned her.

The Algerian President, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, also sent a telegram of condolences to her family, in which he stated, “With this great loss, we bid farewell to a brilliant name of the great Algerian artists, who, along with a group of artists, won appreciation and respect through their high-end theatrical and cinematic works, which were an example for generations of artists”.

Sabounji also mourned the Algerian Foreign Minister, Ramtane Lamamra, who said in a post on Twitter: “May God have mercy on the able artist Farida Sabounji, who joined the supreme companion following a rich and rich artistic and cultural career, entitled commitment and loyalty, which earned her the appreciation and affection of the Algerian public inside and outside the country. Sincere condolences To the family of the deceased and to all the artistic family in this great loss.”
