The 40-year-old was riddled with bullets on Sunday followingnoon in front of his workplace, in the poor neighborhoods in the north of the Marseille city. It would be a settling of accounts, said the police.

According to an AFP count, 23 people have been shot dead since the start of the year in the Bouches-du-Rhône department, and more particularly in Marseille.

A man in his forties was shot dead early Sunday followingnoon in front of the bakery where he worked, in the poor neighborhoods in the north of Marseille, we learned from the prosecution, confirming information from “Provence”. The facts took place shortly before 2 p.m. in front of this business, where the victim suffered a dozen impacts, according to a police source.

“He was known to our services, the modus operandi actually suggests a settling of accounts,” explained the public prosecutor of Marseille, Dominique Laurens. The latter specified that it was however not possible to specify at this stage whether these facts have a link with drug trafficking.

In the Bouches-du-Rhône department, and more particularly in Marseille, 23 people have lost their lives in shooting homicides since the beginning of the year, most once morest a backdrop of rivalries to control the very lucrative drug trafficking, according to an AFP count.
