The Italian Enea Bastianini won the Aragon GP of MotoGP, thus depriving Francesco Bagnaia (2nd) of a 5th consecutive victory. Fabio Quartararo, defending champion and championship leader, retired following a collision with Marc Marquez in the first round.
Third on the starting grid at Alcañiz, Enea Bastianini (24) beat poleman Francesco Bagnaia by a breath (0”042) to pick up his 4th success of the season. Third place went to Spaniard Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia), who conceded 6”139 to the winner.
“The race was great for me from the start (…) I made some mistakes during the race (…) but in the end I won, it’s almost a dream“, declared Enea Bastinaini, 4th in the general classification, who won two podiums in a row for the first time in the queen category following his 2nd place at Misano.
The two Italians fought a good battle for first place until the end, Enea Bastianini overtaking his future teammate at Ducati next season on the very last lap. “I did not see myself overtaking Enea once more because I had already taken too many risks in the previous laps.“, explained Francesco Bagnaia.
Collision between Quartararo and Marquez
With twenty points recovered in the general, the Turinese still achieves a good operation and is now only ten points behind the French Fabio Quartararo. The latter gave up following a clash with Marc Marquez, also forced to retire.
Starting 6th on the grid, Fabio Quartararo fell heavily in the first of the 23 laps of this 15th Grand Prix of the season. He hit Marc Marquez’s bike from behind, returning to competition following three months of absence due to an arm operation.
