A new study has raised the controversy over the link between eating eggs and heart disease, following finding that eating more than 4 eggs per week threatens heart health and is linked to premature death.

There is a lot of cholesterol in one egg, and excess cholesterol is one of the main factors behind clogged arteries and clots.

The study, which was conducted at Northwestern University in Chicago, is characterized by its breadth and diversity. It relied on health and nutritional data for more than 29,000 people, and the proportion of men, including 45 percent, and blacks, 31 percent, in addition to a follow-up period of 17 years.

US dietary recommendations allow for 300 mg of cholesterol per day for healthy people, which is less than the cholesterol found in two eggs.

The results of the new study said that cholesterol, which is found in abundance in egg yolks, is the problem, and that consuming a large amount of it poses a threat to heart health.

The results concluded that low or limited consumption of eggs reduces the risk of heart disease.
