Researchers revealed a new theory that indicated that the surface of Mars was home to thousands of lakes.
Although more than 500 lakes have been discovered, there are thousands of lakes expected to be discovered.
“On this important topic, I think by doing an analysis of all the data out there and some of our own analyzes, we can highlight some fundamentally new aspects of lakes on Mars,” said the new study’s leader, Joseph Michalsky.
Instruments have also been on Mars since 1971 but have explored very little of the Red Planet’s total surface area.
“Lakes are considered by most of the space community as an astrobiological hotbed for exploration, and that’s just because lakes on Earth are generally teeming with life, they have water and a lot of nutrients, organic matter to build life, and access to the sun, for photosynthesis or chemical energy”.
