HANNOVER (Dow Jones)–Ahead of the IAA Transportation, which begins in Hanover on Tuesday, Volkswagen has already received 12,500 pre-orders for the new VW ID.Buzz electric bulli.
“And that without one of the customers even seeing or touching the vehicle at the dealership or even being able to drive it. That’s amazing. And around half of the pre-orders, more than 6,000, are for the ID.Buzz Cargo,” said VW Commercial Vehicles boss Carsten Intra in an interview with the industry and business newspaper Automobilwoche. The delivery time is currently around six months: “We are now at the delivery date at the end of the first quarter, March or April 2023.” The annual production is already sold out and sold out beyond this year. “Of the approximately 15,000 vehicles that we will build in 2022, not all of them can be delivered to customers immediately. We first have to stock the dealers. So the first 6,000 vehicles go to the showrooms, followed by the customer vehicles,” announced Intra .
Currently, 100 cars are being manufactured per day during ramp-up, and by the end of the year it should be a good 200. “And next year we will really ramp it up,” announced Intra. “It should go towards 100,000.” New markets are being looked at closely: “We have received approval from the group that we can in principle use the ID.Buzz in any market in which the ID family is already represented. And there are already some exciting countries there . Japan, for example, Thailand or Malaysia. And we are also looking at China right now.”
In view of the demand, Porsche’s withdrawal from the Artemis project, which is also to be manufactured in Hanover, is manageable. “As far as Porsche is concerned, if you ask me today, I’m not so unhappy regarding it. If the ID.Buzz ramps up as we plan and we really do have to increase capacity once more, then we’ll be happy that we have the space for this here,” emphasized the VWN boss.
