End of suspense in Senegal. Amadou Ba was appointed Prime Minister this Saturday, September 17. He is a former Minister of Economy and Finance and former Minister of Foreign Affairs. The composition of the new government is still awaited.

The news was announced on RTS, the public broadcaster, which has been on a special edition for almost three hours. Amadou Ba, 61, has a political profile. Former Minister of Economy and Finance from 2013 to 2019, he was Minister of Foreign Affairs in 2019 and 2020. His name was one of those circulating in recent months for this post of Prime Minister. He was received in the morning by the Head of State Macky Sall at the presidential palace.

It is therefore the end of a very long wait for almost ten months, since this post of Prime Minister, abolished by the Head of State in May 2019, had been restored in December 2021. But, he had not not been filled so far.

In a message to the nation on Friday evening, President Macky Sall assured that “ the cost of living, youth employment, high rents will be the top priorities of the new government “. A new government that is imminently expected once once more following the announcement of the appointment of Amadou Ba as Prime Minister of Senegal.
