The calm that reigns in the Palace of Westminster around the queen’s coffin was disturbed this Friday evening. Attention, shocking sequence for the British, a man rushed to the coffin of Queen Elizabeth to touch it, before being tackled to the ground.
The incident occurred around 10 p.m. (local time). The individual first crossed the security line established around the catafalque. Then, he climbed the four steps that lead to the oak coffin in which Elizabeth II rests, to finally manage to touch it. These are the facts reported by the British media the Guardian. Security officers quickly subdued the man.
In a statement, Scotland Yard explained that the man was “arrested for violation of the law on public order and taken into custody.”
On social networks (and in particular on Twitter), the video of the incident offended many Internet users. Especially since the man also allegedly jostled a 7-year-old girl as she rushed towards the coffin.
Despite the incident, the funeral vigil was able to continue without further hitches.
