A serious accident occurred this Saturday morning, around 4 a.m., on the R9 in Charleroi. A driver was traveling here to reach the Yernaux tunnel. For an as yet undetermined cause, the driver seems to have hesitated between the Basse-Sambre and A54 directions: his vehicle then hit the directional island, before coming to a stop a few meters further on.
The emergency services were quickly alerted, and the firefighters of Jumet, under the orders of Lieutenant Malanion, intervened, with the extrication equipment as well as the beaconing. The men of the fire literally dismantled the top of the car to be able to recover the unfortunate motorist. This one, alone on board, suffered from serious wounds, in the legs in particular.
Once removed from the cabin, he was taken care of by the emergency services before being taken by ambulance to a hospital. The local police of Charleroi had mobilized several teams, helped by the traffic police. A tow truck was obviously also required to remove what was left of the damaged vehicle.
