The Ministry of Health issued a resolution approving the application of the fourth dose of the covid-19 vaccine for all citizens over 18 years. Until now, this possibility was restricted only to adults over 50 years of age and people from 12 to 49 years of age might receive this fourth application, but only under medical recommendation.
According to the document, the application of this second vaccination booster can be carried out with pharmaceutical doses Pfizer and Moderna.
At the same time, it details that in the event that the available vaccine is that of Modern, health personnel should choose apply half the dose which is normally supplied. This is equivalent to 50 micrograms –0.25 milliliters–, according to the resolution.
Likewise, it is clarified that other brands of vaccine can be used to inject the fourth dose, but they must be of pharmaceutical companies endorsed by Invima and have the respective medical recommendation.
The country’s health professionals and authorities have been asking for the decision for several weeks, as it will be key to giving a new impetus to the National Vaccination Plan. The speed of this public health strategy has slowed down sharply since the country managed to get 70% of the population vaccinated with the full anticovid scheme – with a dose of Janssen or with two doses of the other brands of vaccines-.
To this is added that the same Minister of Health, Carolina Corcho, had indicated at the end of August that regarding 873,000 anticovid doses were at risk of expiration this month.
For this reason, Corcho had also asked the EPS that they promote vaccination more strongly in the regions and that they intensify active search strategies, a strategy that aims to facilitate and induce the immunization of citizens.
