Actor Ahn Sung-ki revealed that he was battling blood cancer.
Ahn Sung-ki, who attended the opening ceremony of ‘Director Bae Chang-ho’s special exhibition’ held at CGV Apgujeong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul on the 15th, aroused concern with his somewhat uncomfortable appearance. Ahn Sung-ki’s agency official told Munhwa Ilbo, “Ahn Sung-ki has been battling the disease for over a year. He was very cautious, so he didn’t tell anyone around.”
In an interview with a media outlet on the 17th, Ahn Sung-ki said, “I have been battling for over a year. “He received chemotherapy and recently his health has improved a bit and he was able to go out,” he said.
Ahn Sung-ki did not appear at the funeral of actor Kang Su-yeon, who was close in May, raising doubts. Ahn Sung-ki’s side explained, “At the time, I went with Jung Woo-sung and others at a late hour,” she explained.
Meanwhile, Ahn Sung-ki was hospitalized following suffering overwork before the release of the movie ‘Paper Flower’ in October 2020. Since then, he has been engulfed in rumors regarding his health, but has since attended several film events, including the Busan International Film Festival. This time, it is known that he has decided to go out in public to support the 40th anniversary of director Bae Chang-ho, who is his best friend. Ahn Sung-ki went on stage and said, “It makes my heart flutter to see this movie once more following 40 years.”
