Slight change in this year 2022 in terms of photography. The Xperia 5 IV abandons the variable focal length of the Xperia 5 III on its telephoto lens and signs a return to a fixed focal length – equivalent to 60 mm ( once morest 70-105 mm on the previous model). On the other hand, the definition remains at 12 megapixels. Same thing for the wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle modules which are, on paper, identical to those of the model III.
Module principal : 12 mégapixels, f/1,7, eq. 24 mm
During the day, the Xperia 5 IV offers a fairly “flat” and natural shot, unlike the S22 Ultra which benefits from a slightly stronger exposure. The level of detail is good, but a little behind due to software smoothing that is a little too pronounced in places.
At night, it’s the same thing: by offering a very natural result, the photo is a little more shimmering to the eye. The exposure is a little too strong on the S22 Ultra and the contrast a little too high. The sharpness of the Sony is good, as is its colorimetry.
Module ultra grand-angle : 12 mégapixels, f/2,2, eq. 16 mm
During the day, the ultra-wide-angle module offers a very good result, with much better sharpness and colorimetry than the S22 Ultra. The exposure is also good, with a very natural rendering, as is the case with the main module.
In low light, the finding is quite similar to that of the wide-angle module. The level of detail is good, the management of the brightness also, just like the colorimetry. With the South Korean adversary, there is a more forced contrast, as well as too much exposure.
Telephoto: 12 megapixels, f/2.4, eq. 60mm
During the day, the telephoto lens behaves quite well, but it is slightly behind that of the Galaxy S22 Ultra. At night, the trend is reversed. The Samsung snapshot becomes unusable as it is scrambled, while that of the Xperia offers a more satisfactory result – in particular thanks to a moderate intervention of the software processing.
Front module, portrait and video mode
At the front, it is the same module that equips the Xperia 1 IV that we find in this Xperia 5 IV. The performances are therefore similar, with good quality selfies and a natural rendering (as with the rear modules). Same observation for the portrait mode which turns out to be very correct. Background blur is good and is adjustable before capturing its image.
In video, the smartphone is capable of filming in 4K at 120 fps or in 1080p at 240 fps. It benefits from optical and electronic stabilization to limit tremors.
