Bulgarian gymnast Stiliana Nikolova came in second with 32.600 points and Italy’s Sofia Refaeli came in third with 31.850 points. Bartholomew’s gold was the first for the German national team since 1975. Then Christina Rosenberg won the world championship.
Varfolomeev was born in Barnaul and played for Russia until the age of 13. In 2019, she moved to Germany and changed sports citizenship. In addition to the gold medal of the World Championship, the Bartholomews have two bronze medals of the European Championship and two gold medals of the Challenge Cup stage in Spain.
On March 4, FIG suspended Russian athletes from international tournaments. Gymnasts were banned from participating in competitions held under the auspices of the federation. Also judges and officials from Russia will not be allowed to participate.
