Eurozone trade deficit rises 33.9% in July

AA/Paris

Official data showed on Thursday that the trade deficit of the euro zone (19 countries) had increased by 33.9% last July, with the persistence of economic difficulties caused by the Russian-Ukrainian war.

According to estimates by the statistics office “Eurostat”, the region’s trade deficit registered 34 billion euros (33.9 billion dollars) in July, compared to a deficit of 25.4 billion euros (25 .3 billion dollars) in revised data for the previous month of June.

On an annual basis, the eurozone recorded a trade deficit last July, compared to a surplus of 20.7 billion euros ($20.6 billion) in July 2021.

According to the data, eurozone imports rose 44% year-on-year in July to 269.5 billion euros ($269.2 billion).

Exports increased by 13.3% on an annual basis to reach 235.5 billion euros (235.2 billion dollars).

China, the euro zone’s largest trading partner, arrived in July, followed by the United States, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Russia, Norway and Turkey respectively.

Eurozone economies have been affected by the negative repercussions of the Russian-Ukrainian war, which caused high levels of global inflation and an unprecedented rise in commodity prices.
