SUBARU(Subaru) announced on September 15 that the new crossover SUV “crosstrek” was released online for the first time in the world. It is the successor to the model sold under the “XV” model name in Japan, and the global name has been unified with the full improvement. Sales will begin in Japan in 2023.
Subaru President Tomomi Nakamura said, “The new Crosstrek is Subaru’s entry-level model for starting an active lifestyle, and we have further refined its individuality. Rather than simply adapting to the immediate fashion, we will meet the expectations of our customers without compromise. We want to provide a car that can continue to respond to every dimension. To that end, we have evolved all aspects of design, safety performance, dynamic feel, and usability.”
Regarding the design, President Nakamura said, “The reliability of an SUV, and the agile and sporty styling with a tight and sharp shape. Not only when I’m driving the car, but just looking at it from the outside makes me want to go out. , has evolved into a design that is suitable as a companion that you want to use thoroughly.”
In terms of dynamic feel, “By adding the latest technologies such as the evolved Subaru global platform to AWD, which has been refined over 50 years, we have refined the dynamic feel with a comfortable feeling that makes you want to keep driving forever. We will provide a time where you can enjoy driving with peace of mind at any time.”
Furthermore, in terms of safety performance, “safety performance is the basis of Subaru’s car manufacturing,” and “we will further improve safety performance in all directions, including the adoption of the latest EyeSight in the new Crosstrek, and We will provide the highest level of safety,” emphasized President Nakamura.
The new Crosstrek is the first model for the Japanese market to adopt a wide-angle monocular camera in addition to a stereo camera unit that doubles the angle of view of the previous model. Managing Executive Officer Tetsuro Fujinuki explains the reason for this: “Until now, we have been using EyeSight with twin-lens stereo cameras. We improved the ability to detect pedestrians from the side and obstacles running out.”
Furthermore, “When we analyze the types of accidents in the real world, we find that there are still sideways accidents, especially those with vulnerable road users, that are still overlooked in the scenario for the goal of zero fatal traffic accidents in 2030. , We decided to adopt a wide-angle monocular camera from the new Crosstrek, partly because it is very effective to increase the sensitivity to jumping out from the side.”
The powertrain for the Japanese market of the new Crosstrek is a combination of a 2-liter direct injection engine and a motor (e-BOXER). The price and specific release date have not been disclosed.
